Not an actual strain
Candy Kush Express is RQS's fast-flowering answer to the long-standing "I want a Kush but not a three-month cycle" request. Genetically it is Sweet Special x Royal Kush. Sweet Special brings the candy notes — that lineage traces back through Grapefruit, Hog, and Cream Caramel, three strains that each put citrus-sweet profiles on the map in their own era. Royal Kush contributes the backbone, descending directly from the legendary Afghani Kush and carrying the indica density, resin production, and sedative potential that come with that side of the family. What makes this cross unusual is the split: 40% sativa, 60% indica is about as close to balanced as the Kush family gets, where most crosses tip hard toward knock-out indica territory. The result is a plant that tastes like candy, grows like a compact indica, and hits like a much more balanced hybrid than the name would lead you to expect.
Growth habit is where the "express" in the name earns its keep. Indoor flowering is a flat 7 weeks — fast enough that growers running perpetual rotations will want to think about how this one slots in — and outdoor plants are ready for harvest in early September, which opens up cooler-climate grows (northern Europe, northern US) that couldn't reliably finish a longer-flowering Kush before first frost. Yields come in at up to 525 g/m2 indoor and up to 500 g per plant outdoor, which is respectable especially given the short cycle. Height stays manageable at around 100 cm indoor and 170 cm outdoor, so she won't take over a tent or crowd out neighbours in a small outdoor plot. The grow is forgiving enough that RQS calls it beginner-friendly, and the reputation holds — dense, high-quality flowers come through with minimal input as long as you keep to a reasonable feed schedule and light cycle.
At around 18% THC with low CBD, the effect curve is the main selling point for consumers. The high opens with an uplifting, slightly energetic front end — a clear-headed lift of 20 or 30 minutes that users often don't expect from something this Kush-heavy — before transitioning into the relaxed body stone the genetics promise. The low CBD regulates the sedative peak so you land in a deep chill rather than getting flattened, making this a viable evening or social strain rather than a pure nightcap. Flavor-wise it delivers exactly what the name advertises: unmistakably sweet and fruity, with the candy-like tone that made the Sweet Special lineage famous. A solid introduction to fast-flowering Kush genetics for first-time growers, and a reliable rotation pick for experienced growers who want something quick, tasty, and balanced rather than wallop-you sedating.
