Black Jack

This classic strain features great hybrid vigor and is totally adapted to indoor grows. When planted outdoors, directly in the ground and with enough sunlight, it becomes a resinous hairy monster of about three meters of height.

With 50% Indica and 50% Sativa genetics, Black Jack delivers a pleasant intense bouquet similar to the Haze cathedral incense aromatic trait. The strain has won multiple international competitions, including 1st Prize Indoor Hydro at the IV Encuentro Por La Normalización Y El Consumo Responsable (Málaga, 2009).

The two parents pull in opposite directions. Black Domina'98 comes from the Black Domina line, an indica-heavy family known for very dark green leaves and dense, resinous buds. Jack Herer, named after the American cannabis activist, is a Haze-based classic with a sharp, clear head high and a piney, spicy nose. Black Jack lands in the middle: an even 50/50 hybrid with the Jack's incense and pine on top and the Domina's weight and resin underneath.

Indoors it runs anywhere from 100 to 180 cm, a wide range that shows how far the sativa side can stretch. Expect real growth after you switch to 12/12, so flip a little earlier than you would with a pure indica. Train the plants in veg as well. Topping or bending early spreads the canopy and keeps the taller plants under the light. Nine weeks of flowering is fair for a hybrid this vigorous.

Outdoors it is a different animal. Planted in the ground with full sun, she reaches about three metres and finishes in November, which is late. That suits a long, dry autumn. In a wet one, dense colas that late in the year invite bud rot, so keep air moving through the plant and check the thickest buds often as harvest gets close. The effect follows the Jack: stimulating and happy, with the citrus and pine of limonene and pinene leading the way.
