Passion #1

Passion #1 has been developed purely for outdoor and greenhouse cultivation — it is not a strain to grow indoors under strong lights, and growers who try will not see its best. Under outdoor conditions it grows with the pattern of a Sativa and the flowering time of an Indica, which is a genuinely unusual combination: the Indica background shows a little more during the vegetative phase, then Sativa characteristics emerge clearly as the plant moves into flower, producing a tall slender plant with thin leaves, thick branches, and elongated buds that reach 40-50 cm in length. These long continuous blooms should be supported during late flower as the weight of the buds can cause branches to sag or completely collapse. Thin leaves and open bud structure make the strain notably resistant to fungus and bud rot — the buds stay firm without becoming compact, retaining a slightly softer, more open structure that breathes in wet conditions. Plants typically reach 2-3.5 m tall outdoors, and under optimal conditions with pre-growth and good soil they push well past 4 m. Passion #1 has strong vertical urge — if left alone she will grow very tall, so growers wanting a wider plant should top and/or fim the plant several times during veg. SCROG works outdoors to limit height if needed. Flowering begins in the last week of July or early August at Dutch latitudes, with bloom time averaging 6-8 weeks; fastest phenotypes finish early September in the Northern Hemisphere, slower ones late September or early October. Plants can be grown in open ground, in pots (50-100L minimum recommended), or in smart pots of several hundred liters for the very best result. Starting indoors in March or April in the Netherlands, germinating and pre-growing for at least 4-6 weeks before moving outside, is standard practice — if time permits 8-10 weeks, repotting several times is better for root development. Don't skip hardening off: leave plants outdoors for a few hours each day over 1-2 weeks, starting in the morning and extending time gradually, before permanent outdoor placement.

Yields are substantial and scale dramatically with growing conditions. Average dry yield runs 250 g per plant in tight conditions up to around 750 g per plant in solid outdoor grows, and under optimal greenhouse or sunny-climate conditions with proper pre-growth, plants can exceed 1.5 kg of dry bud per plant — the upper end of what any outdoor strain produces commercially. Small pots reduce yield proportionally, but even constrained setups can produce several hundred grams per plant. It is more resistant to bad weather than most traditional cannabis strains — rain and cold have less impact on it than on typical outdoor varieties, which makes it genuinely viable for rainy and cold climates where other strains fail. For best results give it a sunny spot in the garden. The effect opens with a strong stimulating up-high — energetic, social, uplifting — that transitions to pleasant stoned sensation if you smoke more. Physical effects are subtle rather than heavy: it relaxes without making users sleepy or lethargic, and the combination of head-high and mild body stone is exactly what the strain's repeat customers come back for. The hybrid nature gives both mental and physical effect in balance, and the high is strong and long-lasting. Many growers love the potent buds where even the small leaves get completely covered with trichomes and sticky resin by the end of flowering. Many outdoor classics have come and gone since Passion #1 was originally selected, but this one has held its ground through every generation of outdoor breeding that followed — a strain that growers keep returning to season after season.

For growers outside the Netherlands, a few climate notes matter. Passion #1 was selected for tough weather and it lives up to that selection — rain tolerance is among the best in the Dutch Passion outdoor collection, and it handles wind and temperature swings better than typical outdoor hybrids because of the open bud structure and sturdy stem development. That said, extreme heat with no airflow will still stress it just like any cannabis strain, and sustained temperatures above 30°C during flower can reduce terpene expression and push some phenotypes toward more "green" rather than properly finished profiles. Mediterranean and continental European climates are ideal; colder Northern European setups still produce good harvests in capable hands, though the larger plant sizes become harder to reach without greenhouse augmentation. For growers in marginal climates, starting indoors as early as February or March and moving outside only after all frost risk is gone is worth the logistical trouble — Passion #1 rewards pre-growth investment more than most outdoor strains.

Phenotype variance in Passion #1 is lower than in many open-pollinated outdoor lines because of the decades of selection behind the seed, but some variation still exists: faster-finishing phenotypes wrap up in early September and run slightly smaller overall, while slower phenos push into October and produce the larger end of the yield range. Both are worth running — the faster pheno suits growers who can't risk autumn rain, the slower one rewards patient growers with the biggest harvests. Buds are firm rather than compact, which is a feature rather than a bug: airflow through the structure reduces mold risk and keeps the plant harvestable even in damp conditions that would destroy more compact strains. Support is necessary in late bloom — the 40-50 cm bud length combined with thick outdoor stems still means some branches will sag or snap without ties. Simple bamboo stakes or lateral support lines handle it easily.

The effect profile is one of the reasons Passion #1 has held its ground through generations of newer outdoor genetics. The up-high is consistently reported as strong and clear rather than racy, and the gradual transition into a body component as dose increases gives users real flexibility — one or two draws for daytime productive use, a full joint for an evening social session. Long-lasting duration means a single bowl covers an extended stretch of activity. Combined with the lemon-lime-herb flavor profile and the smooth smoke, Passion #1 is one of those strains where the cultivation investment pays off twice — once in yield, once in the quality of what you're actually smoking. Not flashy in the modern sense; simply a solid, time-tested outdoor hybrid that outproduces most of what's been released in the last decade.
